Alexandria International airport (ALY), is also known as El Nouzha airport, and is 7kms from Alexandria town center. It is basically a domestic airport but has flights to some Middle Eastern countries and Athens. The runways are both short and therefore only smaller planes such as the Airbus 320 – 200 or the small Boeing 737’s are allowed to land/take off here. This naturally limits passenger numbers boarding or disembarking at any one time. Air Arabia, Lufthansa, Austrian Airways and Olympic Airlines are the main airlines using the airportThe terminal building at Alexandria International airport (ALY) is quite old and offers very few facilities. There are seats in the departure area but limited availability of refreshments or food. You will need a visa to enter Egypt but these can be obtained from a visa officer on entry. The officer will sell you some stamps which you need to affix to your passport before joining the immigration queue. On arrival you will find a currency exchange counter in the arrivals area (after baggage collection and customs) and an ATM outside the terminal building. You can catch a local bus into town from Alexandria International Airport (AYL) or take a taxi. There is no meter or fixed fare so negotiate hard.
