Most major carriers offer Amsterdam cheap flights, some nonstop. There are round-trip fares at all levels, from budget flights to luxury flights. Cheap airfares also vary according to the time of year. The most popular, and most expensive, time for flights to Amsterdam is during tulip season from April to mid-May, and the months of July and August. Even so, the weather is also nice in September and October and the city is less crowded, making it a great time to visit Amsterdam while getting some cheap flights to Amsterdam (AMS). There are many cultural events that take place between September and March, meaning there is plenty to do and see during the off-season.
Schipol is located about 15 km or 8 miles outside of the city of Amsterdam, so it is quick and easy to reach downtown by car, shuttle or train. Train service is available from the station located underneath the airport and the half-hour trip into town departs five times per hour. The main train station in Amsterdam is centrally located, so the train is a convenient way to get into Amsterdam from Schipol. Car rentals, taxis and shuttles are also readily available.
