Faleolo International Airport (APW) Apia is the only international aviation facility in Samoa, and it serves as an important transport hub for this Pacific Island region. The airport is located about 27 miles west of the city center of Apia, which is the capital of Samoa. Even though it is known for friendly locals and a pacific relaxed style, do not be surprised if you have to wait 5 or 10 extra minutes on arrival, as customs and immigration staff may be on lunch. Baggage collection is fast however, and the terminal overall is clean and modern, and very open in design. It is a little warm sometimes, depending on what time of year you travel, but the huge bar and airline lounges are air conditioned. Duty-free shopping is offered but can be expensive when compared to other airports.
Taxis can take you to your hotel in downtown Apia but as there are no metered services, it is advisable to agree on a fare prior to accepting the ride. There are several hotels available, although none of them are near the airport. These include the Aggie Greys Lagoon Beach Resort and Spa, the Insel Fehmarn Hotel? and the Harbor Light Hotel.
Several major international and local airlines offer cheap airfares to Faleolo International Airport (APW) Apia, including Polynesian Airlines, Air Pacific, Air New Zealand, and Inter Island Airways.
