Serving the city of Armenia, Columbia is the El Edén International Airport (AXM) Armenia, which operates mostly domestic flights and a few international flights as well. The El Edén International Airport (AXM) Armenia was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1999. Recently the airport underwent a renovation and the runway was extended, the control tower heightened, and the terminal building modernized. Inside the terminal there is a food court, three domestic gates, and one international gate.
The domestic flights to Medellin, Bogotá, and Cartagena de Indias are operated by six different airlines, including Avianca, Aires, and EasyFly. The one international airline service is to Fort Lauderdale aboard Spirit Airlines, the U.S. low-cost airline. There are nearly 260,000 passengers welcomed in recent years.
Travel time from the airport to central Armenia is about twenty minutes. There is no public transportation going to and from the airport. There are no rental cars either located at the airport. This leaves travelers with the option of taking a taxi if they do not have their personal vehicle. Taxis are very affordable to downtown but just be sure you ask the price of the trip before getting inside when arriving on flights to El Edén International Airport (AXM) Armenia.
