Atlanta Cheap Car Rentals - ATL

Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, National and Thrifty all have reservations desks on the first floor of the passenger atrium at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). After rental arrangements are made, passengers are directed outside to the Ground Transportation Center. Shuttle buses to the car pick up area are in the Yellow Bus Isle. Directions for rental return are given by each individual company.

Airport Rent-A-Car, Payless Car Rental and EZ Rent a Car are offsite. It is recommended that these companies be contacted directly for pick up information. There are car rental counters located throughout Atlanta, mostly at larger hotels, the downtown business district and the Amtrak station. These are manned by many of the companies listed above.

Rental cars in Atlanta can be on the pricy side, with standard cars renting for between $80 and $100 USD per day. You may be able to find better rates and seasonal discounts by booking online. Booking ahead of time also assures that the car you want will be available when you arrive. A major credit card and a valid driver’s license from your country of origin are required. If your license is not in English, you will need an International Driver’s License and passport as well.

Rates generally do not include taxes, drop off fees (picking a car up in one location and dropping off in another), infant or child seats (mandatory in Atlanta), collision damage waivers and fuel charges. Some of the less expensive car companies have distance and mileage restrictions on their rental contracts. It is best to verify this before signing the agreement.

Once you have your rental car, you will find that Hartsfield-Jackson is surrounded by highways. Interstates 75, 85 and 285 ring the airport, and if you aren’t familiar with the area or city driving it might be confusing at first. Rental car agents are happy to give you directions and will even mark your route on the complementary map.
