pronounced su-wanna-poon | | | The best way to get out of the airport and into the city is by bus or taxi. Depending on your budget, taxis come in a variety of forms. You can grab a limousine, public or ghost taxi. Metered taxis will charge a reasonable fare depending on location and traffic. Be wary of the surcharge fee and make sure the driver only charges it for the taxi, not for each person. Try to avoid ghost taxi’s which work without a meter and will charge an expensive flat rate cost.
The most affordable options to get out of the airport, providing you’re not arriving after midnight is to take public buses. The airport shuttle bus is inexpensive and takes up to 1 hour and a half to get downtown or if you’re on a budget, grab a public bus and save yourself a few Bhat. Take the free shuttle bus from the terminal to the Public Transport Center. Grab a bus to your destination and be prepared to wait a few hours until you arrive at your cozy hotel. If you’re in need of a quick stopover there are a few transient hotels around such as the Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel or JL Bangkok for a basic and budget nights sleep.
The other airport in Bangkok is Don Muang (DMK). Serving mainly domestic routes, the best way to reach it is by taxi or bus. By taxi the rate is reasonable and finding a taxi to take you to your destination is not a problem. A bus is a cheaper but a less comfortable option. Bus 59 is the public bus, but wont let you take luggage and the air conditioned express buses are probably the best option.
There is one more option which is the cheapest way of getting out of the airport but not always recommended. Catching a train from the airport to the central station in Bangkok, Hualamphong, is cheap but it is not as reliable as other options.
