The Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) Bangkok was the 18th busiest airport in the world and a major hub for flights reaching out across Asia in 2005. By 2006, much of the air traffic was transferred from the airport to a newer facility, also erected in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.
Since renovations were completed in 2007 the Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) Bangkok has served primarily military and charter flights as well as some scheduled non-connecting domestic flights from across Thailand, which are provided by Nok Air and One-Two-GO Airlines. The years of heavy international traffic took its toll on the airport and the extensive improvements and renovations that are needed to restore the airport to its former glory are not economically viable considering the success of Bangkok’s new international airport. However, the Don Mueang International Airport still manages to maintain a reasonable level of services, amenities and facilities so that it can remain a secondary airport to the city and help to relieve the pressure on other airports by handling many smaller and domestic flights.
