Khao San road is the center of the backpacker bubble. This is where the bohemian budget backpacker resides and is a perfect location for tasty food and easy access to the rest of the city. Within close proximity to taxis, river boats, tuc tucs and the sky train, everything is easily accessible from here. It offers the most creatively exciting area of the city, some of the best and most diverse foods and some of the best knock off accessories in the world can be found at Banglamphu market. Although not as close to the famous architectural sites, Khao San road offers a glimpse into a different side of Thai life. For basic budget accommodation try Bella Bella Hotel, that is nice, clean and central. Or if you want something a little more up market head to The Amarin Inn, located just off the street, offering peace from the chaos and is only a short walk to the centre.

If budget backpacking is not your forte, fear not, some of the best hotels in the world are located in Bangkok. The riverside by Rattanakosin is home to some of the more fancy sleeping quarters in the city. Hotels such as The Oriental and The Peninsular reside here and are ideal for those travelers who want a bit of peace and luxury in this hustling metropolis.

There are many other districts in the city that offer comfortable and affordable, well situated places to sleep. Sukhumvit Road is in the heart of the glitzy commercial district of the city. Close to shops, and with excellent transport links, this is as close as a centre that you will find in Bangkok. For good rate hotels you might try A-One for an uninspiring but comfortable sleep or Sawasdee Sukhumvit Inn for a little more character.

Further south of Sukhumvit road lies the party and financial district of Bangkok, an ideal location if you don’t want to travel far at night. For budget accommodation try HQ Hostel for a basic and budget nights sleep, or if you want to splurge a little, opt for Silom City Hotel to add a little luxury to your trip.

If you’re looking for absolute peace of mind in Bangkok, stay at hotels in the Thonburi district, which has pretty canals and an offbeat feel. The Marriott Resort and Spa or River Side Bangkok are two worthy options here.
