Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi Ė Flying into Indiaís Capital City

Ongoing expansions and improvements are underway but the airport is still rather basic in terms of facilities and amenities, and it is not very well signposted. All domestic flights use the overcrowded Terminal 1, which is actually located kilometers from the international terminal so donít expect to quickly rush on foot to make a domestic connection. Shuttles between the international and domestic terminals run every 30 minutes. All international flights use the overcrowded Terminal 2. Wherever you are at the airport, it is crowded! However, Terminal 2 has seen some refurbishment in recent years and is brighter and more modern than it was. There are a number of new dining outlets and shops in the terminal.

For getting into the city, organize a taxi at the taxi desk outside the arrivals halls of either the international or domestic terminals. Donít bother negotiating with people who approach you offering a better deal. Fares are pre-paid at the desk. If you want to take a bus, tickets can be bought at the counters inside the arrivals hall. Major car rental agencies have counters at the airport but the thought of self-driving in Delhi is not one that appeals to many! There is currently no rail link into Delhi.

Delhi Airport does not have any on-site hotels but there are a number available just a short drive from the airport. Visitors should also note that there is no visa-on-arrival facility in India.
