 | | Detroit Car Rental Guide: A Four-Wheeled Key to the City | | | The Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) offers eight car rental options. Seven of these, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz and National have rental counters onsite. Courtesy shuttles are available from the second floor ground transportation area to their respective counter locations. Thrifty Car Rental also offers a complimentary shuttle to its off site location. To return vehicles, get directions (rental agents will give you a map as well) back to your company’s car location. Once the car has been returned the shuttle will take you back to the terminal. Cars may be rented from downtown Detroit as well other satellite offices throughout the area. Check with your preferred agency for location information.
Car rental rates vary. Mid-size cars run from about $60 to $70 per day. SUV vehicles are popular in the winter season and rent for about $100 to $110 per day. Weekly rates are available as are online specials. Cars rented at off-airport locations may be more expensive. A credit card is needed for all car rentals as is a driver’s license from your home country. If your license is not in the English language, you may wish to obtain an international driver’s license.
Items that are not normally included in rental rates are taxes, damage waivers, liability insurance, infant and car seats (mandatory in Michigan) and drop off fees (dropping off a car at a different location than pick up). Late drop off fees and fuel charges are also extra. Check with your preferred agency for details. Also check with your agency if you are driving into Canada. Rental car companies generally require they be informed before their vehicle crosses the border. Special forms may be required. | | | | | | | | | Compare Cheap Car Rentals Deals | | |
