Flying into Zia International Airport and the Colorful Chaos of Dhaka

Opening in 1981, the airport was named after the former president of Bangladesh, Ziaur Rahman, and is home base for Birman Bangladesh Airlines, GMG Airlines and United Airways. Direct fights from Zia International Airport reach out to 21 destinations throughout Asia and Europe. Flying into Dhaka will place you 20 kilometers (30 miles) north of the city center, with Uttara Residential on one side and the Dhaka Cantonment on the other.

Taxi services are available to take you to various locations in the city limits of Dhaka but be sure to get an official taxi as opposed to an unmarked, unlicensed car in which drivers are likely to overcharge you. It is also a good idea to agree on a price before beginning your journey in a taxi from the airport.

Thanks to the high degree of international traffic, passengers flying into Zia International Airport, the only major international airport in Bangladesh, can expect a high standard of facilities and amenities that are carefully maintained in order to accommodate international passengers from around the world.
