There are four terminals at FLL, three of which handle domestic flights and one (Terminal 4) which receives almost all international flights. Along with major carriers such as US Airways and Southwest, several smaller discount airlines also operate flights to Fort Lauderdale airport. It should be noted, however, that some flights to Fort Lauderdale only operate when the weather is bad in the place of origin, such as during the Canadian winter.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) lies only five kilometers southwest of Fort Lauderdale’s CBD, and is about 34 kilometers from Miami. Fort Lauderdale is one of the major cities in the South Florida metropolitan area, a region of more than 5.4 million people that also includes Miami. Because of the proximity of these two cities, the Fort Lauderdale airport complements its Miami counterpart in terms of carriers, destinations and the areas they serve.

Shuttle services connect FLL and Miami International but, as with many US airports, the most convenient way to get out and about is by car. There are numerous rental car facilities to get you off to Florida’s beaches or attractions, although car rentals are more expensive from the airport than from other locations. Taxis are also generally expensive.
