 | | Fort Myers Florida Car Rentals: Convertible Country | | | Driving around Fort Myers is pretty straight forward. Traffic congestion does occur during the morning and afternoon weekday commutes, but these may seem tame by big city standards. There are two toll bridges, the Sanibel Causeway to Sanibel Island and the Cape Coral Parkway, otherwise known as the Colonial Bridge. The toll on the latter is just on the Fort Myers to Cape Coral direction.
Car rentals in Fort Myers are available at the Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW). All agencies operate out of the airport’s Rental Car Service Center. These include Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, and National. Rates for a mid-sized car are in the $60 to $80 range per day, depending on the time of year. The convertible rates are right around the $100 mark per day.
Car rental rates do not normally include taxes, collision damage insurance, drop fees (picking the car up at one location and dropping it off at another), infant or child car seats (mandatory in Florida), late return fees and gas usage fees. A driver’s license from your home country and a credit card is required. An international driver’s license is advised if your license is not in English.
The Rental Car Service Center is on the ground floor of the parkade, across the street from the baggage claim. Departing passengers will find easy-to-follow signs that will lead back to that lower level and the return car parking area. Take a quick look and make sure you have all your belongings before you hand over those keys. Have a great trip. | | | | | | |
