 | | Arriving at Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Georgetown | | | Renamed for President Dr. Cheddi Jagan in 1997, the airport offers a number of flights daily, including those on airlines familiar to travelers. It is also an important cargo airport, with much of the cargo traffic on its way to and from Spain. Flights to Guyana are on one of nine commercial airlines: Caribbean Airlines, Blue Wing Airlines, Delta, LIAT, Meta Linhas Aeras, Roraima Airways, Surinam Airways, Trans Guyana Airways, and Skyservice Airlines. The airport is a major hub for Trans Guyana Airways, which offers flights to many of the country's other cities.
Delta flights depart daily to JFK Airport in New York City, and other popular destination cities for flights from Guyana include Barbados, Toronto, and Port of Spain.
The simple but modern airport facilities at Cheddi Jagan International Airport include two asphalt paved runways and a main terminal building comprising of an area for baggage and ticketing, as well as six different ground level gates.
