Several car rental agencies also have kiosks at the Halifax International Airport. It is advisable that reservations be booked early should your trip be during the summer season. A wide variety of vehicle categories are available, including economy, compact, midsize, standard, full-size and premium cars. Some major agencies carry minivans, 4x4s and SUVs in their fleet. Renters can request for cars with either manual or automatic transmission, depending on the car model. Daily rates range between $40 for economy size cars to more than $800 for full-size and premium SUVs. Child seats, GPS navigation systems and ski racks can be rented. There is also an optional Collision Damage Insurance available. Car renters must be at least 25 years old. A valid drivers license and a major credit card in the renter’s name must be presented at time of pick-up. Renters must provide proof of transferable collision coverage valid in Canada at pick-up. Drivers who are 21 to 24 years old will incur an Underage Surcharge. Expect a fee for an additional driver.
