Staying in Lima:

From Luxurious to Inexpensive

For visitors who want to stay closest to Lima’s cultural heritage, the historic downtown offers a great range of choices. The budget traveler can select from many reasonably priced properties located near or even right on the central Plaza de Armas. Prices in many of Lima’s cheap hotels are negotiable so rates can end up being excellent for you. Also downtown are some of Lima’s grander hotels, including the Lima Sheraton as one of the oldest top-end establishments around, and the Gran Hotel Bolivar and the San Agustin Riviera.

While the city center is filled with tourists during the day, visitors staying in the area get a great sense of the real Lima at night when the streets and plazas are buzzing with street performers and vendors and local people promenading along the Jiron de la Plaza.

Miraflores has accommodation options for every traveler. It is the most popular district for visitors and one of the cleanest and safest parts of Lima. The JW Marriott, Radisson and Hotel Park Plaza are all to be found here. They offer all the comforts and facilities expected of top international chains. In additional to their proximity to much of Lima’s best dining and nightlife, many of Miraflores’ top hotels are perched on the cliff and offer beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean.

For the budget traveler as well there are 2- and 3-star hotels in the center of Miraflores. Backpackers are also sufficiently served by many hostels in convenient locations.

The trendy and pretty Barranco district is home to a number of smaller, cozier accommodations. It also features chic, boutique-style accommodations. Near the central park are backpackers’ hostels, budget hotels and intimate properties such as the Hotel California and Second Home Peru. The area is renowned for its artistic and Bohemian flair and is particularly popular with the younger crowd.

While it is a prime residential area, the San Isidro district also features many restaurants and shops and some of Lima’s top hotels and casinos. The district offers visitors a quieter, luxurious stay. San Isidro is also good for so-called apart hotels, which are basically short-term serviced apartments. These offer very competitive rates for visitors who are planning a longer stay in Lima.
