Situated six kilometers from the historic city of Lviv in western Ukraine, Lvov Airport (LWO) is sometimes referred to as Lviv Airport (LWO) and occasionally by its former name the Sknyliv Airfield.
The airport does not yet see huge passenger numbers passing through its doors but numbers are expected to rise dramatically as the rest of Europe becomes more aware of the region’s attractions. A huge amount of money has recently been spent on upgrading facilities including the construction of a new terminal building.
The distinctive looking façade of the airport slightly resembles a Roman temple. Facilities at the airport are not extensive by international airport standards but include a bar, ATM, currency exchange, and vending machines.
Flights to Lvov Airport (LWO) come from all over Europe including Rome, Vienna and Warsaw. Carriers serving the airport include Poland’s LOT Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Wizz Air and the local Ukraine International Airlines which offers both international and domestic flights to the airport.
Visitors arriving at Lvov Airport (LWO) can get to Lviv by bus or taxi. The trip takes less than half an hour on the roads that have seen better days. Buses #9 and #95 will take you into the city and leave every 10-15 minutes. Taxi transfers are much more expensive than the bus, and make sure you agree on the fare before setting off. The Lviv railway station then offers connections to other parts of the Ukraine.
