Arriving at Augusto C. Sandino International Airport in Managua, Nicaragua

The fifth-busiest airport in all of Central America, Augusto C. Sandino International has undergone a number of name changes as the political administrations of the country have shifted. It is currently named after Augusto Cesar Sandino, a national hero. The airport has been operating in some form or another since the 1940s, and is the hub for the flag carrier of the country, NICA. As it is a globally focused airport, a variety of international airlines use Augusto C. Sandino International, including some based in the United States and the largest airlines in Latin America. Even so, the facility is divided into a domestic flights area and an international area. The international airlines that offer flights to Managua include Aero Caribbean, American Airlines, Continental, Air Transat, Copa Airlines, TACA, Spirit Airlines and Delta. There are daily flights to and from Havana, Houston, Panama City, San Jose de Costa Rica, Atlanta, Miami, San Salvador and Montreal.

TACA handles all of the domestic traffic to and from Augusto C. Sandino International, including flights for San Carlos, Waspan, Siuna, San Carlos, Corn Island, Bonanza and Bluefields.
