 | | Flights to Maputo International Airport (MPM) | Most international visitors flying into Mozambique will land at Maputo International Airport (MPM) located five kilometers northwest of the country’s capital city. It is the largest of Mozambique’s three international facilities and is sometimes referred to as Lourenco Marques Airport.
As word of Mozambique’s magnificent beaches and great wildlife spreads beyond southern Africa, numbers of international visitors continue to grow. The airport has not yet kept up with its increased popularity and services at Maputo International Airport (MPM) are limited. There is one restaurant, a bar, a post office and a bank.
Arriving passengers can transfer into Maputo via local buses #18, #24 and #25. Bus services run from early in the morning until around 10pm. Taxis also wait outside the terminal for passengers and Avis, Hertz and Imperial car hire companies have desks at the airport.
Visitors can fly to Maputo International Airport (MPM) from Lisbon, Johannesburg, Nairobi, Dar Es Salaam, and Durban, plus regional centers within Mozambique. For those arriving from Europe, it is often cheaper to fly to Johannesburg and transfer from there.
Visitors should be aware that an airport departure tax is payable in cash when leaving Mozambique.
