Mexico City:

From rags to riches, accommodation to suit all budgets

Whilst accommodation can be found in every corner, and the extensive public transport network makes the majority of the city very accessible, some areas are better suited to tourists for their convenience. Each district of the city comes with its own ambience and flavour, with hotels to match, so choose your hotel with your holiday intentions in mind.

Zona Rosa as a tourist haven has a good mid-range hotel selection. For those looking to party, it’s the perfect location, with a plethora of restaurants, bars and clubs right at your doorstep. It is important to do your research beforehand and follow recommendations as the large number of budget accommodations lining the street can be overwhelming and may lead you to choose unwisely.

If you’re looking for something classier, the upscale area of Chapultepec boasts luxury hotels such as the Hotel Presidente Intercontinental and the stylish W Mexico City Hotel. From there you’ll have views of the city’s biggest park and the splendid Castillo de Chapultepec. Other high-end hotels can be found along the tree lined boulevard of the trendy Polanco district. Hotel Habita is one example of the contemporary, modernist hotels found in the area. Staying in this area, you’ll never run out of fine-dining options.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Centro Historico (Historic Centre) has plenty of budget hotels and hostels to choose from where accommodation can be found for as little as $7 a night if you’re willing to share a bathroom. For backpackers, the hostels in this area are a good place to meet people and swap notes if you don't mind noise and the sharing. Centro Historico is also famous for its boutique hotels with exteriors as old as the area itself. From there, you’ll be able to wander through the cobbled streets, up to magnificent Zocalo square and do a walking tour of the surrounding historic buildings.

If you have an early flight to catch, you can choose to stay at the Hilton Hotel, Camino Real Hotel or Fiesta Inn at terminal one of Mexico’s International Airport.
