 | | Renting a Car in Miami: Time to Hit the Road | | | You can easily rent a car from either of the area’s major airports, Miami International Airport and Fort Lauderdale International Airport. At Miami International, you will find check-in counters for most of the major car rental companies inside the baggage claim area. Once you check in, follow the signs to the courtesy shuttle, which will take you to your rental car. Some of the car rental agencies at Miami International are Hertz, Avis, Alamo and Thrifty.
At Fort Lauderdale International, you will also see many of the major car rental agencies. When you arrive, simply follow the signs for the shuttles to the Rental Car Center, which is located on-site at the airport. Some of the agencies represented here are National, Enterprise, Dollar and Budget.
Keep in mind that you may be able to avoid airport taxes and additional fees by renting a car from an agency off the airport grounds. Global, All Day, Atlas and Fox, among others, are located close to Miami International.
You should have no trouble with Miami’s roads, which are based on a grid system and numbered according to their distance from the center of the city.
