The Penang International Airport (PEN) is situated approximately twelve miles south of George Town which is the capital city of Penang, Malaysia. As it is a medium-sized airport with passenger turnover of around 4,000,000 annually, processing on arrival is without delay and you can be on your way in a relatively short time.
As there are no hotels close to the airport, you will need at least 15minutes by taxi or shuttle to find lodgings. You are able to travel to the center of town in just 20 minutes on the Bayan Lepos Highway. Taxis are cheap and in plentiful supply or if you prefer you can hire a car but be advised that you will find cheaper car rentals downtown. Buses operate regularly and are very reasonable in price but again be warned as it takes about 45 minutes to reach George Town. The airport amenities are comparable with other medium sized airports with numerous places to drink and eat, ATMs, foreign currency exchange service and a business centre with a fax, printer and telephones. There is no free internet service. If you are disabled you are well catered for with special toilets and a lift between floors in the single terminal building.
