 | | Rent a Car in Phuket and Explore the Island | | | There are several major car rental companies with counters in or near the airport whose names will be familiar to American visitors. Avis has a counter right inside the airport and Hertz, National, Budget and Europcar have facilities across the street from the airport. Car rental fees are reasonable and tend to drop a little if you choose to rent a car by the week rather than by the day. There are also several local car companies that are reputable and a little less expensive than the rental agencies in the airport. Keep an eye out for Sutin, Braun, Pure and Via for some good deals. Before you complete the car rental deal, be sure to check the insurance level. Many of the rental car companies will tell you that you’re fully covered, when there’s actually a very basic level of insurance given.
Drivers in Phuket tend to be very aggressive, so it’s best to drive extremely defensively. Follow what the locals do and be very aware of your surroundings, especially if you’re new to driving on the left. The terrain is hilly and there are many blind curves in Phuket so you should be ready for anything. And it is best not to drive at night because some of the other drivers on the road may have alcohol in their systems. | | | | | | | | | Compare Cheap Car Rentals Deals | | |
