The airport carries lots of traffic from all over the Caribbean. There are also direct flights to St. Maarten from the USA, as well as Toronto, Paris and Amsterdam. St. Maarten Airport is also a hub for Windward Islands Airways and is the preferred gateway for the Leeward Islands including Anguilla. It is also a popular gateway for connections to Tortola in the British Virgin Islands as it avoids having to fly via San Juan in Puerto Rico.

The airport features a single new passenger terminal constructed on four levels. The building is bright and spacious and provides a great welcome for visitors about to embark on a relaxing tropical holiday.

Other facilities at the airport include an information desk, ATMs, a selection of around 40 shops including duty-free, restaurants, bars and currency exchange. The airport is also well set up to accommodate disabled passengers. The airport’s Customer Information Desk is located between check-in and the entrance to the departures area.

Taxi services at St. Maarten Airport are all regulated and taxi dispatch is co-ordinated by uniformed officials. Taxi fares are set according to a grid system of 21 zones. There are also plenty of local and international car rental agencies present at the airport.

There are no hotels at the airport but the resorts and capital of Philipsburg are only minutes away.

A departure tax is payable when flying out of St. Maarten.
