 | | Renting a Car in Santiago: Cruising the City, Coast, Andean Foothills | | | There are many car rental agencies in Santiago, including Alamo, Avis, Budget and Hertz. These all have kiosks at the airport, and in Providencia. Also at the airport are Econorent and the local chain Rosselet, which offer very cheap rates. In addition, check out the Santiago car rental agencies Automóvil Club de Chile right downtown. In addition, Chilean is located in Bellavista.
Remember that renting a car in Santiago proper, not at the airport, will be cheaper. To obtain a rental, you will have to provide your credit card number.
Driving in Santiago is surprisingly civilized by Latin American capital city standards. Most drivers signal and give each other room, although speeding is common. Outside of Santiago, the modern and well-maintained Pan-American Highway charges relatively expensive tolls or peajes of about $1 to $6. Do not plan on pulling an all-nighter on this highway, however, as the tolls lower their barriers at midnight. Most roads off the Pan-American are unpaved and can be desolate, so make sure to get the 24-hour emergency service number from your car rental agency in Santiago before setting off. | | | | | | | | | Compare Cheap Car Rentals Deals | | |
