 | | Flying to Chile via Santiago Airport – modern and tropical | | | The airport serves as a major gateway from the US to a number of Caribbean destinations as well as holiday makers heading to the central/north part of the Dominican Republic. Most flights to Santiago Airport come from the US, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Panama and the Turks and Caicos Islands. Continued expansion of the airport and its runways means that further routes are expected to be added with the number of flights to and from the airport increasingly annually.
The airport is a hub for the regional airline Caribair, and the base for PAWA Dominicana, but JetBlue Airways is the largest carrier using the airport.
The airport retains the feel of a distinct tropical destination and features a central two-storey international terminal with six gates, plus a domestic terminal and a cargo terminal. Most flights to Cibao use the main international terminal as it is the most modern and well-equipped.
A number of local and international car rental agencies can be found in the arrivals area of the airport, otherwise taxis are the best option for getting into the city. Just make sure you agree on the fare before putting your luggage in the car!
