 | | Renting a Car in Sarajevo: Seeing City and Countryside On Your Own | | | Rental car agencies in Sarajevo charge about 30 euros a day for a midsize vehicle, allotting 80 to 160 kilometers worth of daily mileage.
To rent a car, you must be at least 21 years old and have a driver’s permit that has been valid for a minimum of two years.
A trip out to Mount Jahorina and Mount Bjelasnica of the Olympic mountain range is a must. Both mountains are less than an hour from downtown Sarajevo. The hiking is excellent and the paths afford stunning views of the city below. There are also interesting medieval graveyards in the hills. The area has a good selection of rustic restaurants that make for good places to stop for a country meal before heading back into the city.
Six hours to the south of Sarajevo are Mostar, an Ottoman village, and Muddugorje, a Catholic pilgrimage site. Driving on Bosnia’s two-lane roads is pleasant, but make sure to bring a map, as many roads outside Sarajevo have spotty signage. | | | | | | | | | Compare Cheap Car Rentals Deals | | |
