 | | Driving Back in Time: Renting a Car in Savannah | | | Inside the Savannah airport are the branches of Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National/Alamo and Thrifty. Near the river, in the northern part of the historic district, there are also several car rental agencies, including Cheap Car Rental Savannah, Alamo and Avis. Just south of the eastern Victorian district, in Metropolitan, there are a couple of local Savannah car rental companies: Mopper Stapen Management and Low Budget Rental.
There are also a bunch of agencies out by the budget hotels near the Hunter Army Airfield Golf Course and Ogelthorpe Mall, including Avis, Budget, Economy, Enterprise and the locally based company Premier. If you are staying near here, your hotel may offer a shuttle service for you to pick up the rental car.
If you still need another dose of history even after wandering Savannah’s historic streets, there are several nice day trips just outside of the city. Driving to the Isle of Hope, about 10 miles south of downtown, makes for a nice excursion. Here visitors can stroll past restored antebellum mansions and cottages and gaze down on the Wilmington River from Bluff Drive. Another interesting outing is Wormsloe Plantation, which is the site of Civil War fortresses. Tours are available Tuesday through Sunday. | | | | | | | | | Compare Cheap Car Rentals Deals | | |
