Hotels, History and Fun in Savannah, GA, United States

Remarkable architecture, Atlantic coastal waterways and beaches, and interesting Southern and seafood cuisines are highlights of a visit to Savannah. The historic district offers United States homes from the 1700s and 1800s plus one of the oldest museums in America. In an adjacent historical area, delicate gingerbread adorns colorful homes from the turn of the 19th century. Modern sculptures and historical monuments along with tropical greenery and beautiful fountains cover numerous residential area squares and several famous graveyards. Savannah was laid out in the late 17th century, and a horse and carriage ride is a great way to enjoy it. You can also take an organized walking tour, participate in a ghost tour, and tour the many homes which double as museums.

Hotels and inns are plentiful in the downtown area. Choices range from elegant bed and breakfasts to tourist hotels. At highway exits on I-95 and around the airport, you can find less expensive lodging at well-known hotel chains. There are also condos and hotels closer to the beach.

The area is known for its riverwalk shops and restaurants as well as an open air market where the locals sell artwork, jewelry and crafts. Celebrity chef Paula Deen‘s restaurant Lady and Sons requires reservations. This is a drinking town, and St. Patrick's Day, complete with a four-hour parade, is its favorite holiday.
