Arguably the best place to stay in Seattle is the historical district downtown overlooking the hypnotic waters of Elliot Bay. There are a number of major tourist attractions in this part of the city, which is only a short walk to Seattle's shopping district and vibrant nightlife. Surrounded by the fascinating architecture of Seattle's bygone era together with the looming glass structures of modern times, visitors will feel they are crossing the paths of two worlds. This attractive part of the city is particularly popular with tourists and there are literally hundreds of hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs to choose from. It is also the heart of a pulsating nightlife, with scores of bustling bars, fantastic restaurants and more than a dozen nightclubs.

Hotels in the International District close to the Seattle Space Center also provide stunning views of the city and are conveniently located close to the Experience Music Project and the Pacific Science Center. They also offer a close-up view of the iconic Space Needle. On the doorstep of Chinatown, there is no shortage of authentic pan-Asian restaurants to choose from, and the culinary smells are a delight to experience. This part of town is also handy for the Seattle Monorail, which is the quickest and by far the most fun means of getting to downtown.

On the banks of Union Lake, Capitol Hill is a subcultural neighborhood where the city's grunge rock roots are still prevalent. The views overlooking Union Lake and East Lake are stunning and accommodation in this part of the city is on the doorstep of Millionaire's Row just south of Volunteer Park. The region is renowned for its pulsating nightlife and is dotted with chic bars and some of the finest restaurants the city has to offer.

A 3-star hotel in Seattle costs $120 to $200, while guesthouses and B&Bs are in the region of $80 to $40 a night. There are only a handful of youth hostels and budget hotels in Seattle, but for $50 plus a night you can get a bunk in a shared dorm room.
