 | | Fly into Shanghai Airport – welcome to the exotic east | | | Shanghai Airport is located just 13km southwest of downtown Shanghai and is easily accessible via the Yanan Xilu Highway. Transport options into the city include taxis which are available from in front of the Arrivals Hall. Taxis are metered and should charge according to the meter but in some cases it is possible to agree on a flat fare. Most taxi drivers speak virtually no English so having your destination or hotel written in Chinese is necessary.
Signage at the airport is more than adequate and in English. Other facilities include currency exchange counters, banks and ATMs, plus a post office in each terminal as well as a selection of f&b outlets and shops, smoking areas and clinics. Porters are available to help with luggage trolleys.
Airport bus services run to Shan Xi Lu but if you’re arriving with lots of luggage this is not a good idea. A mini-bus is also available connecting with Jing An Temple Station in the city. Shuttle services are offered by most of the major Shanghai hotels.
For car hire, Avis is the only international company with a presence. Avis offers rental cars with or without a driver. The local rental company also operates out of Shanghai Airport. There is currently no rail link to the airport.
The closest hotel is the Shanghai International Airport Hotel. There are a number of other international hotels in the area close to the airport. | | | |  | | |
