One of the fastest growing airports in Malaysia, Sibu Airport (SBW) has been expanding rapidly in recent years, handling increased amounts of passengers and cargo alike. Located a short distance from Sarawak, the airport’s recent terminal expansion means that it will soon be larger than many other of the country’s airports. The contemporary and renovated terminal offer travelers making their way through Sibu Airport (SBW) a number of different options, including various restaurants, shopping, and information desks. There is an ATM at the airport, and car rental agencies also have offices, for those who need to arrange for transportation once arriving in Sarawak.

The airport began as a single runway operation designed to handle the aircraft of the day, and has expanded so that numerous different sized airplanes can all comfortably land there. The national government has a special interest in expanding the airport due to the potential for more travelers in upcoming years, and the success so far of the new terminal.

AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines both operate regularly scheduled commercial flights from the airport, with the most popular destination being Kuala Lumpur. AirAsia also flies to Johor Bahru and Kuching. From Sibu Airport (SBW), Malaysia Airlines provides additional service to Miri, Bintulu, and Kota Kinabalu.
