Hotels and Ocean Fun at Siesta Key, FL

Siesta Key, a small barrier island, has the finest white powder beaches that are rarely found in the United States. The Gulf of Mexico waters are warmer than the Atlantic Oceanís and sometimes as calm as a lake. Siesta Public Beach is accessed by people staying in off-beach hotels or condos. There are a few hotels on the beach, but the area is dominated by condo complexes and villas. Siesta Public Beach offers shady picnic tables, restrooms, concession stands, tennis courts, a playground, and beach volleyball areas. Restaurants and shops are nearby at Siesta Village.

Hotels on the island tend to be condo clusters or villas. Before entering the island causeway, there are two large hotels which offer more competitive rates. In the area, however, which includes Sarasota and Bradenton, there are many hotels. Accommodations are often clustered at Interstate 75 exits. If you canít stay on the island, that's okay. Siesta Key is the most beautiful, but go enjoy Longboat Key and Venice beach, too.

While on Siesta Key, you will find beachcombing, biking and bar-hopping are three major activities. To get out on the water, try sailing or fishing charters. In Sarasota, there is a beautiful mansion, now an art museum, that belonged to Mr. Bailey of the Barnum and Bailey Ringling Bros. Circus, which has a home base in Sarasota.
