In winter, cross-country skiers will want to check out Mt. Spokane State Park’s free cross-country trails in the Selkirk Mountains. It’s located just 25 miles northeast of the city. A drive out to Green Bluff, a scenic farming community 15 minutes north of Spokane, makes a lovely afternoon excursion. Driving within Spokane is pleasant; there is rarely heavy traffic.
