Osmani International Airport Sylhet (ZYL) is the third-largest flight facility in Bangladesh, but in real terms it is quite small with very few check-in desks and only a handful of boarding gates. Recently, two jet ways and a new taxi area were installed to speed up the boarding and disembarking processes.
Most of the passengers using the airport are Bangladeshis returning home, often from Britain, or traveling to Britain to work or visit relatives.
International flights are available from the airport to London-Heathrow and locations in the Middle East, and there are domestic flights to several locations in Bangladesh. These are operated by four airlines: Birman Bangladesh, GMG, Royal Bengal and United Airways (Bangladesh).
The new terminal building at Osmani International airport (ZYL) has restaurants, a post office, a bank, a duty-free shop and a small VIP lounge.
Taxis are available outside the terminal building but most visitors are met by family, friends or colleagues, as many of the taxis are old and unreliable.
At key times, Osmani International airport (ZYL) can get very busy, so it is wise to arrive early to check in, beat the rush, and find a seat in the departure lounge to await your flight.
