The most popular area for tourists is downtown Toronto near the University around Yonge Street. Overlooking tranquil Lake Ontario, many hotels offer spectacular views of the harbor. It is also ideally situated near a number of Toronto's main attractions such as the Eaton Centre, College Park and several popular museums and art galleries. On the doorstep of the subway it allows for easy access to the city and is the drop-off point for the Airport Express bus. There are hundreds of trendy resto-bars, chic boutiques and delicious restaurants and is in close proximity to several of the city's popular nightlife districts.

Another popular area to stay is Chinatown, enamored for the delightful smells emitting from the many inviting restaurants together with the vibrancy of far eastern cultures. It also has its own unique nightlife as well as being close to the live music district in Queens Street West. The impressive Art Gallery of Ontario is also close by. The most exclusive area in Toronto however, is Bloor Street and Yorkville. This ultra-trendy district is favored by many visiting movie stars and rests on the doorstep of the spectacularly designed Royal Ontario Museum. Many stylish restaurants and glitzy bars here are high-end.

Most hotels in Toronto have bars and restaurants as well as room service, fitness and leisure studios and internet access. There are several familiar chains with a good reputation for luxury and excellent service, such as the Marriot and Radisson. For a 3-star hotel you could expect to pay around USD120-150 a night. If you are on a tight budget there are plenty of discount hotels for around USD60-90 a night.

Toronto is also popular with backpackers and there are around 20 youth hostels offering beds from around USD25. A private room will cost more if available. Hostels are clean friendly and well situated with common room, pool table and TV. Most have high-speed internet access. If you prefer your own space and privacy there are plenty of B&B's and guesthouses offering rooms for around USD40-60 per night. All are comfortable and friendly and though some have 24-hour reception others impose a curfew.
