Tyler Pounds Regional Airport (TYR) is conveniently located fewer than 10 miles from the city of Tyler in Texas. The airport has an interesting history. It was originally opened as a commercial airport, became a military facility during World War II, and then was turned back over to the public when the war ended.

Tyler Pounds Regional Airport (TYR) has three runways and a relatively new terminal building. The airport is served by two airlines. These airlines are American Eagle and Continental, and the two airlines offer daily flights between Tyler and Dallas / Fort Worth and Houston’s Intercontinental Airport.

The airport terminal is well kept, spacious, bright and comfortable. There is a snack bar available for travelers and an interesting aviation museum available for those interested in history. Because the airport is relatively small, travelers don’t have to wait in long lines at check-in and security; however, passengers should still arrive at the airport well ahead of their flights because the airport adheres to the same security standards as larger airports.
