Whilst rental rates are on par with neighboring USA, if you reserve your car in advance, you’re more likely to get one at a discount.
When renting, make sure you read all the clauses and take note of extra charges like drop-off fees, airport surcharges and mileage.
The Trans-Canada highway is the city’s main highway from the east and takes you directly into downtown. The rest of the city take a grid shaped form and is relatively easy to navigate if you have a comprehensive map. Parking in the downtown area is generally quite expensive and paid by meter. For more affordable parking look for an orange circle with a big P. Drivers must be careful about parking over night as vehicles break-ins are not uncommon depending which area of the city you have chosen to park your car.
Within the city, Vancouver offers a number of scenic drivers along the coast and various bridges such as Burrard Street Bridge, Granville Island Bridge, Portmann Bridge and Lions Gate Bridge.
