Vancouver Hotels:

Sleeping Amidst Northern Coastal Beauty

Ever since the ’86 Worlds Fair, Vancouver has steadily expanded its hotel industry to accommodate the influx of tourists who wish to experience its stunning natural setting and diverse cultural offerings. While you’ll certainly want to be out engaging in outdoor recreation, exploring world-class museums and discovering the city’s charming ethnic neighborhoods during the day, it’s always great to have a cozy place to sleep, and Vancouver’s got you covered.

Most of Vancouver’s hotels and hostels are located downtown and are never more than a stone’s throw from iconic Canada Place, Robson Square and other tourist hubs. Staying here you’ll be able to see most of the city on foot as you explore this centralized and pedestrian friendly district. You’ll also get a good night’s sleep because although the area is very active during the day, it quiets down after sunset as most businesses close for the night. Here you’ll find everything from high-end business suites to affordable backpacker hostels, though prices here tend to be pretty high regardless of where you wind up.

Some of the city's most luxurious hotels overlook the harbor or nearby Stanley Park. Located in the heart of downtown, Sutton Place is one of Vancouver’s finest European-style luxury hotels featuring impressive floral displays and antiques inside.

For more affordable options, you may want to consider staying outside the city center. Many budget hotels are located in the area of South Granville, a neighborhood that’s still close to the center. Big chain hotels that offer discounted rates have set up camp here. Best Western, Howard Johnson, and Ramada Inn & Suites have branches in this part of town. Keep in mind that this part of Vancouver attracts quite a few local panhandlers. You’ll be perfectly safe here but it’s not the most ideal location in an otherwise consistently pleasant city. Nightlife is pretty raucous as well, so don’t stay here if you require total silence to get a good night’s sleep.

Another excellent option is to stay in Vancouver’s West Side. You’ll find dozens of charming old houses offering bed & breakfast in some of Vancouver’s most beautiful neighborhoods like artsy Granville Island and quaint Kitsilano.
