|Use caution if your hotel room has a patio or deck which can be accessed from other rooms or floors. Sliding doors require special attention since they can be lifted out of their tracks. Check for a pinning device that locks the door to the frame. |
Be sure there are smoke detectors and fire alarms in your hotel. There are still some hotels in emerging countries that do not have this very important basic. It is also important that your room have fire suppression such as sprinklers.
Donít admit people to your room you do not know. Every member of the hotel staff has identification but even here, if you are not sure who the staff member is, call hotel security or the front desk. Identification is easy to fake.
Use only marked official or licensed taxis. Forgetting this basic rule could get you a whopping bill or worse! Again, ask your hotel for information about local cabs if you are not sure.
Use public transportation whenever you can to become a traveler, not a tourist.
