CDW, LDW, PAI, PEC, and ALI have one thing in common, they are totally confusing!
The first two are collision and liability and may be required based driving records or age.
Personal Accident Insurance (PAI): Provides accidental death and medical for renter and additional passengers.
Personal Effects Coverage (PEC): Offers protection against loss or theft of personal belongings.
Additional Liability Insurance (ALI): Protects the driver against third party claims. You may be covered with the Credit Card you use to rent or with existing Business, Automobile, or Homeowners Insurance. As a general rule, you will still have to pay a deductible with any of these protections but before you buy the extras, check if you really need it.
One final thought, if you are at fault in an accident, your coverage from other sources may be void. |
